TomTome Home tells me: A new application has been installed on your device and you need to restart your device.ġ. I followed all instructions diligently and it displays the same blinking cross as the 720 did this morning for the first time ever. Hooked it up to my computer, TomTom Home suggested to download and install a new application version, the GPSfix almanach and map updates. Last week I had received a test sample of the TomTom ONE Europe. It is able to see the device but both Windows and Mac fail to format it for a fresh install. ![]() The computer won't even write to the internal memory when connected through USB. I spent a couple of hours trying to fix the problem. This is a known problem which you can't solve without a computer and lots of time on your hands. However although I sucessfully installed the new TomTom Home software under Wine it did not recognise the deviceīTW I am running Kubuntu 8.10 and everything is default. My TomTom GO 720 T had a bad surprise for me today. So I had to use windows to get link to the specific url, rather than the select windows, apple etc - and then I could enter it directly into opera for linux. however i discovered that although the link did not appear in either Opera or Firefox for linux (even when set to identify as Internet Explorer), it does appear for both browsers when on Windows Surprising since this is the one it came with.Īt first I was unable to download any update for Tom Tom Home from their website. The Wine version can see the device ok - but I was reluctant to enter any updates to it becuase my TomTom Home CD is v1.6 which dates from and it certainly seems out of date expecially since my device 720T is not listed (the closest one seems to be the 715). It seem there is a special module for virtualbox that I do not have. I assume there is something wrong with USB. However, the virtualbox version is unable to connect to the TomTom device so far. On the other hand I can report that TomTom Home installs and runs ok, both under Wine and Virtualbox. I made the logs (attached to this post) as you suggested but I do not know what to make of them. That has this same letter, with a link to Tomtom. I'm going to start a new thread titled Tomtom petition. The only thing I can think of is to send this or your own version to Tomtom. If you need any help or advice please feel free to contact me, or the thousands of programmers at Once again, would you please consider creating a Linux distribution of TomTom home. Ubuntu Linux especially since it is free, and has excellent support via web based forums. With the dissatisfaction of Vista, XP becoming obsolete, and the price of either of them being inhibitive(and ridiculous) Linux is gaining popularity as a mainstream operating system. Myself, I run Ubuntu Linux Version 8.04 Hardy Heron. I understand TomTom's themselves are Linux based. I can't seem to run it in Wine, or in windows emulators. However I would respectfully request you please begin Linux support for TomTom Home. Tomtom home will only run on Windows, and mac. Ok what I have learned is: Tomtom's themselves are Linux based.
